[ The storage room is blessedly empty, so Simon just sits on the floor in front of a shelf like some kind of zombie apocalypse gremlin, arms on drawn-up knees. It’s just as well. Chairs have been doing him dirty lately. He takes a deep breath. Okay. He’s good, mostly.

This is a topic he can get behind. “I have to do everything manually” is, he figures, the root of what she’s complaining about. She’d said once that she was never really comfortable being human, but Simon took it as something particularly abstract, nothing at all like how he felt not being human.

Now he’s sure she’s talking about some kind of workaholic angst. After all, being annoyed that you’re a human being just because it impacts your productivity doesn’t strike him as all that out-of-character for somebody who’d live like an astronaut at the bottom of the ocean for years for the sake of science.

But— “doesn’t feel right”? He raises his eyebrows, understanding-but-not, because the seed of awareness that his assumptions about Catherine have historically been wrong is being sown. ]

You were human longer than I was. Now you’re a robot convert after a day?

[ Or two. Or whatever that was. ]
