Thanks. [peter murmurs as the takes the offered beverage. it doesn't look like any of the various carbonated soda's he's had back home. unsurprising, really. he untwists the cap, giving it an experimental sniff before tipping it back. the fizzing beverage, whose taste he can't really describe as anything other than sharp, washes away the lingering taste of the sausages.]
You sound a little unsure about that. [peter takes another sip of the drink, pausing to consider how he's going to explain things.]
Multiple universes are a thing. Like... lets say you wake up one day and you're just minding your own business, trying to get some push ups and crunches in. Gotta keep in shape, right? And this weird thing happens and you get sucked into some giant portal. It feels a whole lot like your molecules are being pulled apart. You pinball your way through the city only to slam right into a billboard.
You find yourself in a city that looks a lot like your city. Things look a lot the same. Like there's a 82nd street, for example. But things are different, that brand of cola you drink isn't a thing. There's another brand of cola. And they're saying you're dead on a news report.
The only thing is? You're younger, blond, and well... different. [peter pauses as he realizes he's gone off and word vomited his way through explaining things.]
Ahem. Sorry about that. It's not important.
My point is... there's places out there, where we could've done a something different, we don't exist, or if we do there's something different about us. Is that what your friend was trying to tell you?
