I'm pretty sure that novels like that describe the lives of most of the people like us. [Case in point: everything Clarke's been through. She's not genre savvy back home, but being here has forced her to reckon with some basic facts.]

Of which there aren't many. At most, we're around fifty in number, maybe at around ten or more? There are around forty million people here, and they're all natives. We're living one of those novels right now, I think.
