[ after repeated loss, jyn has learned how to shut down her emotions, shoving her feelings and memories and heartache under a hatch in a cave to be ignored. not to be looked at at a later date, but to be completely ignored for the sake of her survival. she doesn't have the luxury of an emotional breakdown, she never has.

feeling the emotions bubble up now she shoves them down, angry that the crew of rogue one had battered down her defences enough that any of the feelings could spill through. she'd spent so long making her emotions small and unobtrusive that she had let them atrophy, rogue one breathing life back into them is too painful still.

she wipes the emotion from her expression, replaced with a fragile neutrality. ]


It's fine. [ she can't bring them back, she can't go back. ] I finished what they started.

[ the galaxy was the important part. not jyn, not her family legacy, not that she had made them proud in the end; what they did mattered, what they did was so impossibly important, because the galaxy was free of the terror of the death star. she has to believe it made everything worth it. ]
