As soon as Gabriel hears Johann leave the room, he’s doing his very best to get in some kind of upright position. The drugs make it harder than he anticipates, but he moves carefully and tries not to make any sudden movements, and soon enough he’s sitting up, even if he’s a little woozy. Gabriel touches the back of his head gingerly, to make sure there’s actually a stitched-up wound there, and that he’s not being bamboozled.

“Anyone else in here? Cassius?”
