[ That he's doomed himself, anyway. Poison would be a change of pace. He stares at the drink again, and then takes another sip from it, wincing. ]

If I die, you can probably sue.

Do you really think legalities work the same in this city than they do wherever you have come from?

( he glances around and shakes his head. )

I am sure they are heavily protected considering the amount of lives lost in this place, the city not this bar, that tends to happen.

I figure you can still go after the guy who can't afford it.

[ Given what he's seen around the city, the obvious wealth inequalities. ]

And I'm from Indiana.

[ Which wasn't the point. ]

I do not need the money.

( he already had plenty of it from the fighting rings and his own work. )

And suing someone for fun does not interest me. I will leave that to someone else here if they truly do want to.

Yeah, Daisy said you were rich.

And you're not spending it on drink. [ Bucky looks down at his own beverage, which still stings from his last sip of it. ] Probably a good idea.

I don't know if rich is the word I would use but we are comfortable.

( because he punched people in the head and won a lot. )

I am not a heavy drinker but sometimes I like to indulge. Just not on things that I do not or have not ever had before.

Well, with an attitude like that, you never get to try anything new.

[ Not that this particular drink was really worth trying. ]

I'm not looking to start anything.

[ Maybe that goes without saying, or maybe he needs to clarify. ]

( he's not in the fighting rings, he has no reason to fight someone. )

No, but I wouldn't blame you.

[ Bucky won't say he deserves it, but he could see that perspective. ]

I am just finishing with work and I thought I would unwind before going back home.

[deadthenred]

Long day, huh? [ This is just the thing you say to someone else in a bar.

Home is the curious word here. How people make a home, even here. It's not something he knows much about. ]

How'd you and Daisy meet, anyway?

[kgbs]

We met here, in New Amsterdam. She was an...absolute nuisance of a person the first day I met her.

( so of course they'd ended up engaged. )

She still is but I've grown fond of it.

[deadthenred]

I always thought it'd be hard to date… [ How is he gonna put this? ] modern girls.

But I guess here all the rules are out the window.

[ He takes another sip of his drink, wincing. ]

It is absolutely difficult to date a modern woman.

( he's managed to catch himself up somewhat but he doesn't know half of what daisy says sometimes. )

Plus, she is quite adept with technology which is something I did not have a lot of exposure to where I am from so it feels even harder sometimes. But, she's there to help me and laugh while doing so.

( not maliciously. it's just who she is. )

Yeah. [ It helps to have help. ] In 2019 most people used technology to date.

[ Not him. ]

Probably here too. [ Obviously he hasn't looked into it. ]

That is something I am not sure about. Daisy and I met face to face. She thinks she beat me at a Checkers game but she did not.

( yes, she had. )

And then ordered me to make her dinner. I don't think she is like most people.

We were partners, in my world.

[ Not in a romantic way, at all. ]

Different Daisy. [ He's still trying to figure her out, here. But there's a certain implicit trust, on his end. ] Still something. [ Both of them are. ]

You and Daisy were partners?

( that is...something new. not that his daisy would have known but still. )

Did you two get along?

[ He told Daisy about it, but didn't get into all the details, and so far, she hasn't asked about them. ]

Sure. I do know how to work as part of a team. [ A pause. ]

She gave me lip, too, if that's what you mean. But that's why you have a partner in the first place.

[ So they can call you out, when you need to be. ]

[kgbs]

I would be concerned if she wasn't the type to throw her weight around in any universe. It's good to know that I'm right.

( it's still strange to think of another version of daisy though. )

Do you miss her?

I miss a lot of people.

[ From his first life, and his new one. ]

She's one of them.

Maybe they will show up here.

( or maybe they won't. it is all left up to luck and chance. )

Maybe you will just be here drinking while you miss them. I have done that.

Probably better for them if they don't, right?

[ He wouldn't want anyone to be kidnapped just to keep him company, that's for sure. But maybe there are people who have made their lives here better than the ones they were taken from.

It's strange to consider. ]

But yeah. Maybe I will.

Probably but sometimes you just cannot stop it from happening. Twice now, people I knew at home have come here.

( and twice, they've been taken away. )

This place does not listen to our wishes.

You think it's weird? Theoretically there are infinite universes, right? Hell of a coincidence if you know one or two people from home.

[ But even if it weren't coincidental, Bucky isn't sure what that would mean. ]
