[ Maine doesn't see Ephemera leave. The place is too crowded. Too many cheering faces looking at him, and not one of them familiar. He's puzzled by the absence. A little disappointed. He thought they were having a decent time.
Maybe it has nothing to do with him. Maybe something came up. Who knows?
Maine retrieves his shirt and retreats to the makeshift locker room. No Ephemera there, either. He cleans his hands and takes stock of his winnings. Calculates how much more he'll need until he can get a place of his own. He has no intention of staying at the safehouse any longer than necessary.
There's still no sign of Ephemera when Maine finishes cleaning up. He considers sending a message, but he decides against it for the time being. Thinks it might be weird. Still, he makes a note to check in later, just to make sure Ephemera is all right.
They're both former ODSTs. This isn't their universe, but that still means something. And as far as Maine knows, Ephemera is the closest thing to a teammate that he has. ]
