[ Her sense of practicality, talking without being elliptical -- kind of reminds him of someone from back home. From his life, Before. From behind her, Nathan's expression changes again, mouth flat and frowning, but there's something in the set of his eyes that looks surprised more than it doesn't.

It's a complicated mix. Steph would talk like this, too. Enough information laid flat and bare to tell him to shut the fuck up, to stop talking around what he wants to say.

Circumstances like this need to be seen as opportunities. The Falconry would have wanted it that way, and the thought bubbles up inside him, buoyed by the vestiges of an old world and older training. The crunch of rock and loose soil underfoot, ambient sounds fill up the air for a while. At least, before Nathan speaks up again.
