WHO: Gene + anyone else who'd like to participate.
WHERE: a collapsed part of the street + the Arachne caverns!
WHEN: 3 days into the Monster Crisis of 2XXX because I'm bad at dates. May 31st, 2512 because Alison came in clutch with the save.
WHAT: Let's go rescue civilians and get our Aliens franchise vibe on.
NOTES OR WARNINGS: Here there be monsters! Also possible: character death, assorted other nasty injuries, Gene possibly saying the word 'fuck' a time or two. starters will be in comments to keep things organized. Feel free to treat this like a mingle log and tag around/other people, absolutely no need to tag me!!

the briefing+prep;

( gene ain't one for speeches, so he ain't about to give one. he lays it out plain โ€” roughly five miles of caverns underground, folks bein' kept in a central area. access point is a collapsed part of the street that'd been overgrown with plants an' the like that dropped down into one'a the caverns. he'll make mention of havin' to fight your way through somethin' like spiderwebs spun between all the trees, debris an' bits of building that came down with the roadway. he reckons there may be around fifty of the arachne in the central nest. there's a hastily mocked up sand table so's he can show folks the routes in and hopefully out.

this thread is for folks to introduce themselves to each other one-on-one, discuss battle plans and the divvy up supplies+weaponry. please assume the main points of the op have already been made! )

the assault options;

( option a) fighting through the creepy spiderweb forest that descends into the caverns. there are broken parts of road that fell into the cavern are pitted and pockmarked with damage, it's easier than you might think to end up in a hole you couldn't see. is there a body down there with you? gross, your foot just went through a rotting torso, that's definitely the opposite of a good time. or not, no judgment.

option b) once you get deeper into the caverns, it's time to break out the flashlights! gene's initial recommendation will be for a small group to try and sneak past while the others form a a decoy squad! please specify which group you want your characters to be in! the decoy squad will be directed off towards another cavern system to draw fire, the sneaky group are going to take a smaller and slightly longer route to try and get to the civilians unnoticed. will they succeed? fail? who knows?

for the sneaky squad — try to take care of any monsters you come across quietly and as quickly as possible. knives and brute force are probably better than guns or anything that'll make noise! the aim is to get to the civilians as quickly as possible, but you need to look after yourself too! make sure everyone is fighting fit, check on your fellows and stay in network contact with the other group.

for the decoy squad — monsters will be everywhere, and though they may not seem like they want to kill you, they definitely appear keen on dragging you off into the darkness beyond the pale lamplight glow... will they ever stop coming? also, is it just you or do they seem to be trying to herd you deeper into the caverns...?

option c)
sneak squad! you've made it to the civilians and have come across one hell of a sight. approximately twenty people have been cocooned in the fetal position into tasty little monster hors d'oeuvres, served up blue rare. they seem cogent and fairly ambulatory once they're freed, if a little uncoordinated (almost like being drunk, actually...) feel free to make up npcs as you go and kill them off for theatrical flair as needed, whoops. meanwhile: the monsters probably aren't going to be happy you're stealing their dinner, and they're starting to realize they've been duped and are coming back to the nest to defend it!

decoy squad well, you've caused one hell of a ruckus, haven't you? and it seems to be working, because you've got a lot of dead monsters on your hands. but now the issue is supplies are probably running low at this point, any injuries sustained in the initial assault are probably starting to affect people, and you've still got a couple miles back to the trucks. better hope the person next to you packed an extra handful of bullets... plus, you still need to meet up with the first team. no man left behind! make sure you're watching out for that random stranger you've never met before, who might just become your new best friend!

you can also come up with your own stuff as needed! go nuts, this is just a loose framework.)
