man who carries a blade like this. scarred up like that. calm, competent. not afraid of the blood or a little hard work. funny, how joel's still more accustomed to those sorts than any of the well-to-do city folk here. truth be told, he wouldn't want to tangle with this one — but at least that doesn't seem to be in the cards right yet.

and if it happens otherwise, well, he just gave joel a weapon.


The trick's making sure you don't nick the bowel. It's still savable if you do, of course, but you need to rinse it real quick.

he gestures at where he'd scooped the guts out, intact and gleaming with viscera. then:

Help me turn it over. We'll let it drain some.

let the blood run out onto a space he's cleared and prepped — more leaves, to keep as much dirt as possible out. he's even ditched the area a little so the blood stays in one concentrated spot he can kick dirt over afterwards.

clearly, an old hand at this.
