[The problem with the soldiers, especially the straggler without a formation to try to emulate, is that they're not doing all right. The man looks dazed as he sits up. He's in peak condition, sure, but there is a glossiness to his eyes that doesn't seem right. Whatever was done to him was compounded by his time in the Aerie, making him look a bit like a drone that hasn't received directions.
For a moment, it reminds Sam of someone who's recently been exorcised. But from what he's read, that happened to these people a while ago.
