remorseful: (let's start a fanclub for my hair.)

[Backing off of someone isn't Sam's style. Dealing with the problem is. Even if he doesn't know that Dean's intervention with his life made him better at this (because he hasn't really sat down to psychoanalyze himself), he knows that he's keen to get it done and over with. Better than to pretend he's fine. He'll have the talk. Work through it. Or make himself dogged. But he won't avoid it.

That's a distant past Sam deal. He's gotten over that particularly nasty flaw. Not repression, not a front, just—hiding the truth of the matter because he thinks he's got it figured out. So, he won't do that. No one can say he hasn't learned from his mistakes.]

Um, yeah. My friend Cas? I got back, and his remark was "condolences on your most recent death." [He huffs out a laugh.] It's kind of a Winchester tradition at this point. I'd give you the whole list of them, but I'm kinda desensitized to it at this point.

[A beat.]

I didn't die coming back, though. I guess—ah, there's that. And for you, for better or worse, at least you know what happened. You know you died, and that you came back. [The first time, he didn't. He's not telling her to have it roll off her back, but given the situation before them? It might help. But it might not, too.]

I don't want you to think it's not a big deal. Just—just that I know what it's like. The finality of it, right before you take your last breath. There isn't always a guarantee that you'll come back.
