I think someone tried to see if there was some sort of physical source of the glow by cutting into their chest, but they didn't find anything. It seems to be metaphysical, which makes sense.

In addition to our individual powers there's also a few other things to be aware of; one is that if any two Displaced touch, it activates a connection that allows us to feel each other's emotions and potentially share memories. That causes the glowing too, as a side effect.
