[It's always interesting when someone asks that question. It doesn't necessarily mean they're the type who doesn't expect anything from anyone, though it can; it can also mean they're just cautious and aware--or, to put it differently, suspicious--of others' motives.
And it's with good reason. Even someone who generally believes the best of others has reason to be careful when they find themselves kidnapped to another dimension; why should they just trust the first people who are nice to them? That's something Lance has tried explaining to others here himself, especially recently, so it doesn't bother him at all that Sephiroth asks.
