[ max has barely slept more than a couple hours at a time since arriving at the safe house, but that's not unusual. what had been more worrying was the sudden need for rest overwhelming her instincts and desire to stay awake, and then there had been the dream itself. she's already been reminded of manticore several times since arriving, and the nightmare has her that much more on edge.
she's headed to the kitchen in search of some task to get her mind off of what's still in her head when she overhears gaby's conversation with...someone. she's tempted to linger and see what she can overhear, but then gaby makes a point to close the door. which wouldn't ordinarily stop her, but her mind is still reeling from the nightmare, so instead she finds a box of supplies that have yet to be sorted and gets to work at an empty table, keeping an eye on the door as she works in case gaby comes out.
when she does, max has just about finished sorting through them, and stands when she sees gaby heading out, waiting until she's a little closer before approaching. ]
