[Set deep in the downtown of New Amsterdam's entertainment district is Asylum, arguably the most popular club in the city. The exterior is cool steel beams and tasteful futuristic architecture with a long line down the corridor, suited bouncers posed at the entrance all armed with a virtual guest list. Its interior is fashioned with bright, colorful lighting dynamic to the music of the infamous DJ Semicolon, high ceilings and acoustic sounds to lend that feeling of a constant full-body hum. Any partygoers on the guest list for this event will be funneled toward the VIP section. They will have received an invitation a few days prior via their Cooltalk profiles. Jason is specifically blacklisted, sorry buddy.

DANCE YOUR HEART OUT. Nearly impossible to book without deep pockets or wide-reaching connections, Semicolon is at the top of their game mixing popular contemporary hits with Whitney Houston's classics. From song to song, Semicolon provides a unique and talented contrast of the slow to the energetic, so no matter your dancing style, you'll find something to move you on the dance floor.

DROWN YOUR... LIVER. Courtesy of the party's host, Hideki Maeda, the VIP section's private bar will provide an ever-flowing river of your favorite expensive high-proof alcohol. Pick your poison.

CHILL OUT. Tired on your feet from too much dancing, or just need a break from the packed atmosphere? There are plenty of comfortable areas where you can relax and take it easy until you're ready to get back out there. The lights around this area cycle through different colors in reflection of Semicolon's performance set, so a slower song might lend toward romantic shades of red while a faster-paced song is brighter blue.

SMOKE, EAT & MINGLE. Asylum will be serving real, fresh meat at this party, so enjoy that luxury while it lasts. There is also an outdoor area with a beautiful view over the city itself if you want to take your vape pen out there for a smoke, just get some air, or see who's around for a chat.]

[prompto does a double take at the mention of their presents not quite having arrived yet, and the glance he casts towards cain is but barely masking a moment of incertitude, swept away almost immediately to look at hideki with a look that doesn't betray the genuine curiosity displayed on his features.]

You mean this party isn't the birthday present?

[sometimes it's hard to remember just how rich the maedas were, all things considered.]

[sitting up straighter, prompto's attention is fixed on hideki, for that's usually something the guy likes; even if this party is all about prompto and cain, it really mostly is about lavishing hideki with praise and attention, lbr.]

Wow! You sure like to go all out, huh!

Uh...

[It's almost too much for Cain. The party itself, the shameless spending, the social media spotlight. Asylum's a hit tonight, as is Semicolon's legendary presence - when all Cain really wants to do is drink whiskey in his own bed and maybe watch a gory Halloween movie.]

So, when are they getting here? You gonna give us a hint on what it is first?

I knew you'd ask for a hint! [ How can it be too much, Cain? Hideki wouldn't do anything halfway. That isn't how he was taught to make friends. His other friends are just as rich, and therefore very bored of Hideki's antics quite quickly. Most of them are beginning trade training so they can eventually take jobs at the Big Three.

And then there's Hideki. Aoi doesn't outright call her son an embarrassment — she comes close to it. ]

But no hint, no no. I know what you like. So you can guess! If you get it right, maybe I'll bring it out sooner.

[prompto indulges in a myriad of text conversations through his neural implant, ditzy and all over the place as he usually is, and suddenly picks up onto what's going on. he grins up at cain.]

Yeah, Cain. Make a guess!

[What could Hideki believe they want, assuming the covers they've played this whole time? Of course, the guess is left to him. Cain sips at his drink and adopts an expression of careful thought. Hideki values attention, wealth, luxury, and drugs. Money is no object. That in mind, he has absolutely no idea what it could be.]

... Uh, more shots? [Okay, that wasn't the greatest attempt.] Hoverbikes? Day passes to a resort spa? ... Acid?

[He could keep going down a list of things-Hideki-probably-likes, because it follows that their gifts have to be Hideki approved.]

Gonna be awesome, whatever it is. I can be patient.

Wait. You don't have a hoverbike already? [ Hideki approved, but clearly none of the things listed. Now that a game's been started, it might be continued.

This question may be evidence that he's already been distracted. ]

It's not a hoverbike! My mom would be pissed if I got you something that big — she starts giving me an allowance if I go too big! [ He looks guilty and tugs them both close. ] This party was too big, but I convinced her. Don't worry!

You shouldn't get into trouble with your mom just because of us, y'know.

[hideki's always wanting some form of physical reassurance, perhaps because of his upbringing—keeping what he owns and likes at close reach. it's not entirely unflattering, but prompto wonders how much of it is him being bratty and how much of it is him being fearful of losing them.]

Dunno about others, but I'm just happy to hang out with you, Hideki.

[veer this convo towards... quiet hangouts...at his place...] Not that this party isn't incredible! It's even better cuz you went through the trouble of it at all!

[Slinging a friendly arm over Hideki's shoulders as he's pulled in, Cain's grateful that Prompto's caught his drift in wanting to get somewhere quieter. A particular location, in fact. It's not something they discussed, but they've been fairly on track with everything else to do with Hideki up to this point. Prompto isn't difficult to work with.]

Yeah, anything you wanna give us is fuckin' awesome, seriously. And I've never been to a party like this before. Really outdid yourself.

[That much is true, at least.]

Gonna have to borrow someone's couch to sleep this off after.

Fine, fine, you got me! First — my couch is your couch, my friend! Why would I ever leave you to return to ... whatever it is you normally have? [ The casual assumption that what Cain has is bad. That's what that is. ]

Secondly — your gifts are arriving right ... about ... now!

[ Two people walk up — one beautiful man and one beautiful woman — with a tray with the gifts. They're each topped with a red cloth bow. Hideki leans in to take the tray and set it in his lap. The gifts are positioned so that each person's gift is closest to them, as if Hideki wanted them to check on that before they showed up.

On Cain's end, there is a very, very nice vape. It interfaces with his neural implant, letting him know of its current conditions, as well as checking the reading on any "toxins" put into it. It's top of the line — and very nice.

On Prompto's end, there is a very nice camera — one that's fitting for the year 2511. Better than any neural implant camera technology, it's meant to be worn externally. It offers great digital pictures, videos and has a slot for film, along with a note about where to get film and have it processed. ]

[prompto's quick to pick up the camera from the tray, his face a mix of awe and surprise. falling back on the cushions, he's looking at the camera over with the eye of someone who has definitely seen this around but could have never dreamed of getting something like it at all.]

This is a Lux Ti1 D900! Dude! This is too awesome!

[it even has film! that's too high quality for a gift?!]

Are you sure I can keep this? [holy shit] Cain, it has film! [!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!]

[Prompto's excitement is infectious, and he's grinning by the time he picks up his own gift where it's carefully laid out on the tray. Whatever his misgivings about this entire situation, that is easily the nicest vape he's seen. He couldn't have afforded it himself, would've have been willing to splurge anyway, Taking it up in his fingers, Cain hails the menu screen of the device's neural link -- but leaves the settings so he can mess with them later.]

Holy shit.

[He reaches and affectionately ruffles Hideki's hair. Got to hand it to him, he knows what they like. ]

Okay, this is fucking cool.

[amstrdm]

See! Now, why were you in a rush to leave again? [ Hideki isn't nice to people he doesn't like. Case in point: he's kicked V out of the celebrations elsewhere. Here — here is a damn good time. He's happy to bask in it, but not for long. Now that he's seen the looks on their faces, he's satisfied.

He leans into Cain, wrapping his arm around him to hold him close. ]

I've got one of my own. We'll look super fucking cool together, and this guy — [ He quirks his thumb at Prompto. ] He'll take all the pictures.

[mercurio]

How 'bout a second to let me get familiar with it?

[he jokes, having already scanned his ID into the camera's system and getting the interface to display into his neural implant, a selection of options and filters and optimizing available for his brainwaves. it's so much different than the usual.]

[but he's pressing onwards, selecting the basic and easiest of settings—and snapping shots of hideki and cain as he can.]

Woah. The images are super crisp...
