He's helpful when it aligns with his interests.

[ What his interests are — well, that's another matter. She's gleaned what she could for humanity, for herself, for survival — but none of it has been conducive to uncovering Cassius' end goal. Octavia can acknowledge that, but she isn't inclined to undersell his usefulness.

If he turns on them, they'll have to find a way to destroy them. Until then, she isn't blind to the fact that they can utilize his information to fuel their own interests in turn. An arrangement of convenience until it threatens them. (There is no if in her mind — only until. Her faith in alliances is stark, nearly nonexistent, when betrayal and agony have waited for her around every corner.)

At least he didn't hide what he was. I'd trust that more than I'd trust fighting for an AI that deceived you all.

[ It isn't defensive, but merely the truth — though there is a bitterness to the edge of her words that makes itself known. She can only be grateful El hadn't made a fool of her, or the cut would run deeper. ]
