Not the strangest I have heard. [ passing on blessings is pretty common across many planets. it's just whomst the blessings are from that varies. ]

How many people have stopped by because of the chocolate you already have? [ he is contemplating her question for real. ] And does it stay tasting like chocolate?

It does! [ which she is pleased by. granted, her chocolate creations are eaten fairly quickly and not left to sit, but she bought a tub of hot cocoa mix and the powder still tastes like real hot chocolate and it's been... a few weeks now? she has decided it is a permanent taste change. ]

I'm not sure how many people though, whoever lives here still.

[ permanent chocolate, in a land with minimum chocolate. you know what, that's a pretty neat power in the end. she's like sixteen but there's no reason she can't take advantage of something like that! ]

You could always look into a chocolate stand at the next festival. Or even a permanent spot in a bakery. [ a beat. ] If the black market doesn't work out, of course.

That's true.

[ she has options. which is wild for a girl who spent half her life knowing her life span isn't exactly... long. and now it's really not long, since, you know, it's over. ]

The only hurdle is explaining away where it comes from, I guess.

I would suggest maybe claiming it a synthetic ingredient, but that takes away from the appeal of it being real chocolate.

Perhaps you have a secret inheritance that allows you to import it. It might be worth looking into how chocolate itself is usually acquired and running from there.

[ it's fine, he'll help this teenager get started on a chocolate smuggling ring. ]

Oh that's smart. I was never really into the whole research thing, that was my cousins' thing.

And if you are more boots on the ground, asking high end shops where they get their chocolate supplies might work as well.

I miss paper. How am I supposed to take notes if I can't write anything down?

You can take notes in your head. [ he taps his temple. ] I know it is not the same, but at least you will never be searching for something to write with.

[ paper hadn't exactly been common back home either, but this earth takes the cake for digitization. ]

Yeah, I don't like that. What if someone gets in there? I don't know enough about computers to trust that someone isn't snooping on me.

[ who is to say whoever put that stuff in her brain isn't just rifling through what she jots down! she is fun and adorable but has a healthy dose of paranoia. luckily, texting is not natural to her and she mostly uses it to check in with people before she... sees them in person. ]

Paper can be found just as easily through physical snooping. You probably have to be different kinds of careful with either option.

Then they'll just be stealing my stuff, not rustling around in my brain like a truffle pig.

[ that seems to be the real problem. she doesn't want people in her head.

she pours a mug of cocoa, studying cassian for a moment before she dusts some spices on the top of the mug. a proprietary blend, sweet and spicy to complement the rich milk chocolate drink. she slides it over to him, eyebrows lofted as if awaiting his opinion. ]

The key is to make it with oat milk. That's what makes it so creamy.

[ oh. right. people have Stuff they don't want stolen! cassian is very new to the having Personal Stuff, he forgets that's a thing. ] Both are shades of terrible.

[ he would want people in his head less, but he's been adapting to the implant life here, mostly out of necessity. she'll get there too, even to a smaller extent. ]

[ he takes the offered drink regardless, giving it a sniff. it smells... delicious. ] The most common milk where I am from is blue, so I am willing to try most milks here at least once. [ he takes a sip and..... oh gosh she was right, it's very creamy and a little spicy and its better than any other cocoas he's had since arriving on this dirt planet. ] I think you have a solid start to your chocolate market.

[ the moment his face softens at the taste of the hot cocoa, silena beams a brilliant smile, delighted. she takes such pride in baking and cooking for people -- it is absolutely one of her love languages -- that cassian simply enjoying the drink is enough to make the lack of paper briefly worth it. ]

I'm glad you like it. Why is the milk blue?

[ oh, well, that's a happy face if he ever saw one. this girl is just... very kind. genuinely. some people fake it, obviously, but he gets the sense she isn't. he takes another sip of it, because he really does like it. ]

Why is the milk here white? That part is strange to me too. [ sip sip. ] Ours comes from a creature we call a bantha.

I see your point. We uses to have milk from cows, uh. Big herd animals, cute squishy faces, hooves. Now I guess it's all from nuts and grains and vegetables.

[ she doesn't mind the vegan stuff, but. butter. she is used to cooking with butter. ]

Bantha are quite large and hairy. Their most distinguishing feature is probably the horns, they curl up. [ it's hard to describe a bantha. he's never had to before! ]

I am not sure what was standard to the old Earth, but it does seem like there have been a lot of changes from what most of the Earth Displaced are used to.
