Quentin doesn't mind people being a dick. His Brakebills roommate was Penny, one of the most dickish people he's ever met, and he came to love dearly with time. A lot of time. Quentin's much more tolerant of people than most are, and his desire to help override his defensiveness or nerves. He tries to consider how to put this next part, because it's still a lot of guess work.

"So the people who alert us are not the people who took us. We don't know why that happens, but this group has been made that sort of spots when people show up who shouldn't be there." He assumes El does something AI-y and finds what doesn't fit, but he doesn't know. "The group, Morningstar, helps us out. Gets us new IDs and set up in the city." Quentin shrugs. "I was pretty skeptical at first, I assumed they were connected and just tricking us, but experience has proven otherwise."

Meaning that he understands if Kol doesn't believe him or Morningstar and suspects the worst, because honestly it's the wisest course of action when first getting here. Trust no one. Doubt everything.

Still, he focuses in on the next part and taps his fingers on his arm. "Do you normally have powers and tried to use them? They don't work. It fucking sucks." Now that at least Quentin isn't even trying to spin out into a positive. It sucks. He hates it. "I'm a magician, a magic user, it's been a shitshow. I have zero idea how they managed to change us fundamentally, but they did. Everyone's different. Demigods, superheroes, vampires."
