( caroline does not cook in her kitchen very often. at least, not as often as she could. she also isn't always home, so maybe that's part of it.

in any case, she doesn't mind helena's presence... though she is mildly relieved to hear that she won't have to do heavy duty cleaning herself. )

I'm not super hungry ( for mac and cheese ) but I'll have a little, I guess. How long have you been... making this?

[sestra]

[ helena has very minimal experience cooking. she virtually makes pasta or microwave dinners when it comes to cooking for herself, so she is very excited to dry another noodle dish. with many cheeses. ]

[ she hums. when did she start?? ]

Has been twenty minutes, I think. I was not looking at clock. Maybe ten. [ she has very little sense of time for this, clearly. ]

[gasping]

( caroline's brows furrow for a moment, and as they do, the urge to move helena aside and fix whatever is happening is hard to resist. but this isn't her project, and and the end of the day, it really doesn't matter if helena has overcooked pasta or congealed cheese in her dish. it's fine.

caroline can sit her type-a behind down on a chair, and let helena figure it out for herself. or not. maybe she'll just eat it anyway. )

I usually set a timer when I cook pasta. It's really easy to get distracted and let it overcook.

[sestra]

[ she looks at the cheese with consideration. is this enough? how much did silena say was needed again? doesn't... more cheese just mean it's cheesier?? ]

Timer is good idea. [ for....... everything. the noodles are already cooking in the pot, but she has lost track. ] I will use to help melt cheese. Noodles seem like they are almost finished.

[gasping]

Maybe take the noodles off the stove?

( it is really hard to avoid the instinct to just take over!!! )

I mean, if you think they're done. You could try one.

[sestra]

[ she takes one sliding step the noodles, stirring them around and scooping one out with her spoon. ]

[ the problem? she doesn't wait any time, doesn't blow on it - just shoves the whole thing in her mouth. her face contorts from the sting of the burn and she spits it out immediately, where it lands on the floor. ]

Too hot. Can't tell if they are finished.

[gasping]

Ew! Gross.

( helena, please. use a spoon. or be a vampire who doesn't care about literal temperature torture, and chew the pasta like it's lukewarm off someone's plate. )

They're definitely done, though. Probably a little under, which is weird, but they'll keep cooking in the sauce.

[sestra]

[ she is still making a face, unhappy to have her tongue burned. she sticks it out, making a blech sound. ] Noodle is gross.

[ she'll pick it up off the floor when she believes it to be no longer on fire. ]

Cheese will cook it? Are you sure of this? [ she sounds suspicious. ] Should I wait until cheese is melty like sauce?
