[ there is something cruel in her tone but jyn isn't evolved enough to care about imperial sympathizers. bodhi seems to be the sum of her sympathy but bodhi also actively defected and had the sheer reckless courage to bring the message to saw gerrera, of all people.
she doesn't have the capacity to care about this woman.
her forearms rest across the ledge, watching the citizens realize their governor has been assassinated. instead of lingering fear, there is a growing jubilance, despite the storm troopers still about. jyn has a feeling this planet's resistance is about to swoop in and take out the troopers. ding dong the witch is dead.
she smiles slightly, watching a couple embrace. ]
Did it work? Do they take back the city?

Not immediately. But it was a step in the right direction. It was done with the full cooperation of this city's resistance movement.
[ he'd originally been sent her to try and recruit some of them, but it turned into helping them push back. to organizing them, teaching some of them how to use a blaster, to turning the tone of the regular people against this woman and her ideas. one person cannot come in and fix everything, so cassian was brought in to speed up the process for the whole. ]
[ jyn is correct - there's more blasterfire, but it's from that local resistance, taking out the remaining troopers, all to the jubilation of the rest of the population. ] In a few days time, more troopers will be sent - but the resistance will be waiting for them. Ready.

Where are we off to next?
[ she doesn't think that's the end of the dream, it's too straight forward, too easy. dreams are messy and confusing (hers are, at least) and even this jubilant and successful dream is tinged with the grey of cassian's heavy heart, like death is a spectre standing just out of sight, following cassian to collect the souls left behind in his wake. ]

I rendezvous with the rebels in about an hour. It was a failsafe, in case someone tracked me to the roof. The plan was for no sniper to ever be found. [ they do not track him, but - ]
Someone does catch me leaving. [ and he's hauling a literal sniper rifle, so. that someone is dead now. ]

So we've got an hour... to go to a party.
[ that is what she is taking from this. why can't he go hang out with the revelers? stow the rifle, go help himself to some stew, watch the celebrations... maybe this planet has The Red Cookies. ]
no subject
I did not go to the party. I could not be caught with the rifle.
[ it is half true, half excuse. he's cassian, he could have very easily hid it and come back for it. but also: he's cassian, so he mostly just sat up here on the roof for a while. ]

[ get a taste of that freedom, a taste of the happiness and lightness that comes from freeing a city, even for a short time, from an oppressive force. besides, nothing is stopping jyn and he's gonna have to follow her if she jumps off the building.
which she might, stepping up on the ledge. ]
Come on. Take me to a party. Never seen freedom, it could be fun.

[ he doesn't follow standing suit, staying seated and blinking up at her. he'll leap to his feet if she makes to leap off the edge, but he suspects simply asking her might suffice too. ]
I did not particularly want to go either. [ more like! he didn't want to have fun! same difference. ]

Come on, Captain. [ the back of her finger trails across his jaw, the empathy bond flaring briefly sharing her curiosity and wonder. ] I've never seen a victory before.
[ not one that wasn't couched in a massacre, at least. ]
no subject
I reiterate, not a total victory. I was off planet by the time that happens. [ a beat. ] I don't know how to attend this party. It is my dream, but I cannot think how to imagine it.

[ they weren't there for very long, waiting for the high council to gather, but it was long enough to realize the booze was plentiful and the rebels were antsy and reckless and constantly grieving one loss or another.
cassian might not have celebrated himself but he'd seen it. and if not... she holds out her hand. ]
I can imagine it.
no subject
You might have to do most of the imagining. I rarely went to any of these things.
[ maybe when he was younger, but those were much quieter celebrations. ]
