Nope. Etheria is trapped in some kind of void dimension. It's only us, our sun and our twelve moons. No one else.
Coming here was the first time I'd ever even seen stars.
no subject
[ he can't imagine... not ever seeing stars, but he does have the luck of having literally flown through space too. ]
Does the atmosphere of Etheria block out all the skies? There are a great number of planets I have seen that do the same.
no subject
[ At the second question, she frowns and shakes her head. ]
No. We're legitimately in a void dimenison. Etheria used to be a part of the bigger galaxy some thousand or so years ago. But then-- I don't know. Something happened. There was some kind of apocalypse-level event and now we're stuck in Despondos. Most of the people of Etheria don't even know that much. We all just... grow up never knowing that other planets even exist.
no subject
[ cassian frowns too. can't say he's ever heard of a void dimension?? hyperspace is... kind of a void, but it's not livable. ]
From my understand of this planet, Earth, it took time for them to discover nearby planets, much less those further away. How did you discover this? Is that information about Etheria suppressed or simply lost?
no subject
As for the space stuff... that isn't common knowledge. My boss fell through some kind of wormhole and ended up on Etheria by accident. He's the one who told us about the rest of the galaxy. We've spent the last year trying to build a portal back to it.
no subject
And how is this portal coming along?
no subject
[ Well, only Adora. But Adora's on the opposite side, so. Essentially, no. ]
Tch... it almost worked. We were able to get a signal out.
no subject
Was it radio waves? A code, a message?
no subject
... I'm not really the head of the tech department...
no subject
So which department are you?
no subject
Who knows where I stand now.
no subject
[ he'll never test that theory himself. ]

At least that is one thing you can say for your time here, the ability to prep your fix. [ he's curious about what she did, but he'll never ask directly. just... try to draw hints out of her if need be. ]
no subject
[ Then she grins, when Cassian makes his proposal. ]
You know... that's not actually a bad idea. In fact... maybe it's time for a change in leadership.
no subject
[ there's nothing in his tone to suggest disbelief or a sense of encouragement - it's just curious. ]
no subject
It's me. I'm the one out there in the field with the troops. I'm the one filling out all the paperwork. I'm the one coming up with all the plans.
no subject
[ but he has picked up a lot of things about catra and what her life might have been like from this conversation alone. a soldier of some kind, but one who also throws rocks at strangers. ]
Have you ever planned a coup before?
no subject
The only thing they share in common is that both of them are deeply, deeply angry at the world. ]
How do you think I got to my current position?
No one just gives up their power in the Horde. If you sit around just waiting to be promoted, hoping someone will notice you, you'll be waiting for a long time.
Everyone has a weak point. You just have to find out where to apply pressure.
no subject
I find there are very few people who give up power once they have it.
And people who do the work out in the field often command more loyalty than those who defer from afar. Sounds like you know how to use that to your advantage.
no subject
... No. That approach won't work. ... I've never been very well-liked.
[ Gee, wonder why. ]
... But I get things done. I know the Rebellion better than anyone. We've won more ground since I took command than we've done in years. ... That has to count for something.
no subject
I find usually the rebellions are the ones trying to gain ground.
no subject
I mean, the last war basically decimated the adult population of Etheria, so. Y'know. Everyone kinda had to take a time out for a while.
[ Also goes a long way to explaining why Catra has any sort of position in Command despite her age. ]
no subject
So then why are you fighting this Rebellion now?
[ he is still suspect with this new information, but it doesn't mean he's gonna act like it. it's a natural follow up question! ]
no subject
Can't have total control of a planet if there's a group not under your control.
