[ Okay, they're as ready as they're going to be. Drake managed to get the lights on so the place looks open and they're not stuck in the dark for this, and he's fairly confident in his powers. He glances to the other two people with him, who look determined and uneasy, respectively. ]

It's too bad there isn't actually a random couch or something in here.

[ He may have told Maine he was picking up new furniture. ]

[ preoccupied with other thoughts, drake's couch comment earns a noticeably confused expression from carolina, a solid few seconds of wondering what that has to do with anything before it clicks. right. an excuse to get maine here. she wouldn't have thought that far ahead, herself, but it makes her all the more grateful for drake's presence.

and ephemera's too, by extension. they're not friendly with one another, but they have an understanding, an awareness that they're more similar than either of them would necessarily like. that he's here for drake is incredibly respectable.

she'll thank them both later. for now— ] This needs to happen. If things escalate, just remember to keep your distance, both of you.

[ It's not his old rig, but Ephemera has armor of his own. Stolen from a mercenary back in New Cairo, he's since modified it to serve his own purposes. Ephemera very reluctantly did not bring any of his guns, on the principal that adding firearms to the situation would inevitably lead to someone, somewhere, getting their blood painted across the ground. He has brought the baton, though, and he's suited up with a cool look on his face. They're doing this. ]

I'll do my part.

[ His armor is black, the additions subtle. It doesn't suit him to stand out here and so he's only used black and very dark blue to accent the armor. The patterns are geometric, only visible in certain light and at certain angles. Simple compared to his other work. Subtle. But the armor has been made his own. That was important. ]

[ Drake is very determined that this isn't going to escalate, and if that's self serving because he personally needs a win, well. He isn't going to let Carolina get killed if things do go awry that's for sure. Surely between the three of them they can subdue August-- Maine.

His worry is really that the massive man won't forgive him for the deception, even if he does realize that this was a necessary trick. ]

Next intervention we're working on optimism.

[ It's not his best joke but he needs something to break the tension. ]

[ ephemera gets a little nod from carolina, respect obvious in the gesture. his presence wasn't her idea, but she didn't object and now that the time is here, she's grateful he is, too. it makes her feel a little less guilty about asking drake to be a part of this when he doesn't have to be.

then again, drake seems to be part of a lot of her things even when he doesn't have to be. at least she mostly knows why. ]

I think you'll have better luck just making sure none of us need to do anything like this again. That sounds easier than optimism.

[ It's a mission, at least. There's some comfort in having something with clear perimeters. Ephemera rolls his shoulders. The armor isn't like his old rig but it's better than nothing. He'll have to work with that. ]

We just waiting now?

[ Drake just gives Carolina a Look, because how is he supposed to do that? It's not like any of them have any control over what this place does to them. ]

Yeah. You guys should probably get out of sight, so he can't bolt immediately. I'll go out and meet him.

[ carolina looks to ephemera and gives a little jerk of her head, an invitation to come with her as she moves out of sight of the door. he's probably moving there anyway, but she'd motion a teammate along the same way and at least for now, he's on her side. ]

[ Gametime. Ephemera nods just once and steps back into the shadows. However this goes, he'll follow their lead. ]
