Pictures of last night ended up online, I'm screwed

WHO: Thor ([personal profile] ofmyth), Loki ([personal profile] selfimage), a bunch of booze, and everyone!
WHERE: Safehouse 2.0
WHEN: Late afternoon, evening, night on the 28th.
WHAT: Some people took down the monster, some people kept the group safe, some people snuck off to steal booze. They can all celebrate together.
NOTES OR WARNINGS: This is a post-event mingle! Loki stole a bunch of alcohol and Thor is going to make sure everyone gets some. Debrief, have fun, get wreckt, prepare for tfln the next morning.
Tag your own/check individual threads for specific warnings.

[When Loki hears the news of the Godzilla's demise, it takes a moment to sink in. There were doubts when a handful of the refugees wanted to run out and play hero, especially with their lack of abilities (for those who had them). He expected Thor to come back content on his involvement at best, broken and nursing his own failure, at worst. This? This is better than the best, and it's worthy of celebration. I's hard not to be pleased, hard not to congratulate; it's Thor's victory post the fall of Asgard, and Loki's sure that he's reveling in it.

Then, comes the booze: all different bottle shapes and sizes, some dark with lighter liquid, others opaque filled with something that has a more amber tint. It's unloaded carefully by all of them, messily lined up on the frames of one of the cots..

Thor looks to be almost a different creature than the moping, sullen thing he'd been since they arrived in the safehouse. Getting to his feet he stands taller, shoulders held back, a bright look in his eyes. Loki backs him up, tinking a metal spoon against one of the bottles to get everyone's attention. As Thor speaks he looks around the room, seeking out the eyes of everyone present.]

Seven days ago we were strangers. We were brought into an underground bunker, unsure of who we were and how we had come here. Some were angry, some afraid, others unsure. It's thanks to the aid and kindness of Gaby and El that we survived at all, here in this foreign city. Today, we have proven we will not merely surivive here.

[Thor hasn't met everyone here, but that's ultimately not the point. In his mind they are in this together, for better or worse. There is a 'we' who celebrate together now just as much as there is a 'they' who are responsible for their being here.]

Today we have repaid Gaby her kindness. Today we have protected not only her people here in the safehouse, but the people of the city. Today we have proved our strength to ourselves, to the city, to any who are watching us. Today, we set fear in the heart of our captor. [He seems to relish that last one most of all.]

Seven days ago we had little to celebrate. Today we raise a toast—[Up goes his bottle, held high and triumphant.] To us! To what we have done today! To victory!

[Loki chimes in, shaking the little bottle in his hand.] To New Amsterdam!

[Thor's arm is held high while others raise their drinks, then Thor upends his to drain it in a long pull.]

[ there's another bottle filled halfway with amber liquid, and he puts that to his lips, taking a sip with one hand, and then smoothing his hair back with the other when he's finished. it's still not long enough, but it stays back for a bit before it begins to fall in short locks around his forehead. ]

Unfortunate that it doesn't meet your standards. [ there's an inflection in his voice that makes the words sound almost poetic, carrying an easy cadence even in his mild intoxication. ] Do you judge parties often?

I typically don't go to them.

[Well, it's more she hasn't had the chance to due to reasons as she lifts her shoulders up in a lazy shrug. Her voice is somewhat judgemental but she's doing her best to keep that opinion to herself.]

[ there's a bottle in his hand that he tips up to drink post-water, still watching her from over the amber rim. he knows the tone, as it's been low-key following him since he was a child in Asgard.

no one ever really liked him in their midst.
]

Well, color me curious—[ that comes out a tad bit too easily. ]—what makes this more of a mess than your other experiences with them? Parties tend to be a least a tad bit of one, cutting loose, blah blah blah ...

[Well, she knows when she's being called out when she hears it. There's some silence on her end when she makes an attempt to put together an answer.]

Everyone getting drunk.

[She just doesn't get it. She doesn't condone it despite being 21 herself.]

[ he rides through the silence like a pro, fixing his eyes on her when she speaks. ]

As they tend to, at parties. There's the fall of a great monster to celebrate. [ something tells him that she wouldn't quite like the halls of Asgard. ] It's the first bit of cheer offered since our unfortunate arrival.

[Yeah she probably wouldn't like the halls of Asgard as much. But the way he puts it, it feels like she should keep putting her discomfort aside as she has. She's not stopped anyone from drinking just taking care of them.]

And that cheer is good. [She nods to the bottle that had water in it.] I just get the feeling that when you all wake up tomorrow, you won't be so cheerful.

[ it's like a split second, like mood whiplash. a brow is raised and he gives a lazy look around the room. ]

Oh—probably, but right now we're alive and we're victorious, the past and future be damned.

[ he tips up the bottle to her as if in toast, expecting her to lift her own water. ]

[Well, why not? She lifts the water in a toast.]

I'm afraid I'm not good at living in the present, but I suppose I can live vicariously through everyone here for one night.

We're all reasonable adult-ish type beings for the most part.

[ he drinks from the bottle, then lowers it with an expressive shrug. ]

We reap our own consequences. You can laugh about it in the morning if you're feeling especially strong.
timemachine: (227)

[personal profile] timemachine 2018-09-06 01:30 pm (UTC)(link)
If you can laugh in the morning, then I'll have to rethink my thoughts on you all drinking, then.

[Just most people who drink in excess are bitter and use alcohol to cover pain and all that. Like some sort of drug. Not that she'll rethink on people's drinking habits, but a white lie to say she'll play along but still mother hen.]

Consequences are quite a heavy thing, after all. [Lord, does she know about consequences.]

[ they can be, but Loki seems noncommittal. ]

Unfortunate that they can't be avoided.

[ they were never entirely good nor bad, but they were consequences. while Loki has taken them personally, he's also sought his own outcomes. ]

They generally can't. Sometimes they come right away, and sometimes they take nine years to catch up to you. Those ones that take their time are the worst.

[When people feel safe from their really bad decisions, then suddenly years later they're reaping what they sowed. Sucks for them, man.

Anyway, Akane's expression is somewhat serious, but it almost looks like she's playing. Like whatever she said, that consequence wasn't hers.]

It sounds like you have experience on that front.

Oh, I personally don't. I've just heard stories.

[ there's a curious pause, and a raise of a brow that says he doesn't quite believe her.

regardless, he doesn't press the issue.
]

As you will, I'll indulge the pedantry. What stories?

Um, well, I'm not sure if it's true, but I've heard there was a girl that died. Caught on fire-- incinerated-- in a messed up game. But somehow, she lived through some time loophole thing and decided to bide her time and wait for the perfect opportunity to get her revenge. I heard she forced this man to not only play the exact same game he forced her to play, but that she also manipulated him to kill his subordinates that helped him when he forced the girl to initially play the game.

[She taps her lower lip, looking up like she's trying to recall all the detail of this story she heard.]

I don't think it's entirely true though. Most of it was just stuff I read on the internet. Creepypasta, I think, is what the Americans call it.

[ he drinks, putting the bottle in his hand to his lips. he listens to her tone, the pauses and the places where she speeds up. there's an art to storytelling, and part of it always includes lying.

that's why he's always been good at it.
]

I'm impressed, the internet isn't usually so clever.

So, is it poetic justice? [ he asks, curious. ] Or something else?

There's a lot of clever stories there.

[She folds her hands behind her back as she leans forward a bit.]

As for this story, I'd like to think it's a story of revenge.
