NOTES OR WARNINGS:

all about trains
[ So, like, trains right? He's never been on a train before. Why would he when he used to be able to run almost faster than the speed of sound? It's cool, it's a great experience, he enjoys watching the scenery whoosh passed.

And now he's over it.

He can be found grabbing food from the food cart and taking pictures and video where and when appropriate. If he's sitting he's sitting and drumming both of his feet obnoxiously, if he's standing he's probably pacing. He hates this and he can't actually think straight. It was cool and then it wasn't, and when you perceive the world faster than most people around you it makes things all the slower.

He drapes himself across two seats, heels of his hands pressed into his eyes. ] This sucks.

It's like they dragged me out of one cage and put me in another.

[ It's. Cold.

Volunteer work is important and all, but it's fucking frigid and Tommy's never actually had to deal with cold like this before. He blows on his hands and rubs them together lightning fast. ]

You ever see anything like this before? [ He cants his head towards the snow out the window. ]

Pretty much, yeah.

[ He shrugs, like it's out of his hands. ]

Part of my mutation is accelerated perception. I process things faster than most people do to avoid smashing into things while I'm running. My uncle has the same power and is pretty much the same way. It's a speed thing.

[he keeps walking backwards as they speak, banging the empty seats's headrests with his hands; what tommy is saying, it sounds a little familiar.]

I think the power I've got from this place is very similar to that. I get to process things a bit faster, but my focus is also really high. I don't necessarily go faster, though.

So you get it.

[ But not exactly. ]

Time felt like it moved differently for me.

[but not exactly.]

I mean, it's only for a couple of minutes. After that I'm dying from exhaustion, though. Gotta sleep it off to feel like a normal living creature again.

[he remembers something, and it shows on his face, the moment of sudden surprise as he pats himself down. he's got a small rubber ball that jingles whenever it bounces in one of his pockets. hurrying forward to create some distance between the two of them, he tosses it as tommy.]

[they could toss it back and forth?]

So, now time's moving super normal for you, huh! Your reaction time must be really out of whack half the time.

[ he catches it quick, tossing it from hand to hand to examine it before he goes ahead and bounces it back. hopefully nobody else minds the impromptu game of catch. ]

It's like time's going how it goes for everyone else now, but my brains basically still on speed. So everything feels slow.

It's like my entire body is using it's max amount of energy, so yeah. [makes a face] Sucks.

[he catches the ball and tosses it back. it zooms high this time, and prompto half squats, ready for a low toss in return.]

You think that'll ever get fixed?

[ He considers the advice his uncle gave him - eat more carbs, eat more so you've got actual energy to burn and you aren't starving yourself because your metabolism works faster than literally anyone elses. but he remembers prompto's words from the diner. ]

Some juice or something might help. Helps me.

[ back it goes. tommy's reflexes are lightning quick - just without the actual lightning speed. ]

Unless my actual powers come back? Nah. This is just the way I was wired.

Some juice offers no specifics. I'll keep it in mind, though. My friend Ignis can come up with pretty neat recipes out of thin air.

[he catches the ball and tosses it right back with a dramatic air, throwing the ball from behind himself.]

He might have something for boosting me up. Guess we could always go for races at random if there's no fixing it for ya?

It'll save Billy from complaining every time I want to go for a run.

[ brothers. ]

Juice like - something sugary, perks you up, you're gonna burn off fast anyway. Like, dude, you saw my appetite.

I wish I hadn't seen your appetite.

[mock gag expression for your benefit.]

Anyway-

[he walks further, to put more distance between the two of them.]

-that's pretty solid advice. I'll see to it when we arrive in New Tokyo, but maybe I'll have to wait to test out your theory when we get back to NA. You're the expert on burning energy fast though, so there's gotta be some truth to your words.
