WHERE: Weapon's depot for stealing weapons
WHEN: During the event
WHAT: Being criminals
NOTES OR WARNINGS: They're all warnings. Will specify if they get extra warning-y.
"I've always liked people who say 'the night is young.'"
[ the way to be prepared for any situation is to have the information that's needed already locked away for the taking. in anticipation, Loki has tucked away a few interesting tidbits for side projects here and there, when the time presents itself.
it seems like that time is now.
the EMP hits, and the city goes down. there are two stops he makes: back to his own apartment to speak with Jason, and then to the safehouse. the plan unfolds, and with the circumstances, it shouldn't be hard to get a getaway car. (it's not that he's against helping people—in fact, he goes out of his way to help a few on the way to the apartment, and then to the safehouse—he just has his own agenda.) at the safehouse he acquires a scrambling mask, which is exactly what he had come for. it's there that he sees Akechi again, and after their conversation about DAWN, says that there's an opportunity for them here. it doesn't take much to convince Akechi (and he even gets the feeling that Akechi is convincing him a little bit).
the next stop is one of Pulsar's subsidiaries. ]
INFILTRATING
no subject
Shido would've had to take those people out eventually.
But here? Here, those skills can be utilized a different way. There is a level of pragmatism involved. Getting a weapon will mean something. Being able to practice his power is a boon, as well. In time, the combination of factors will act to his benefit. He's too used to seeing circumstances this way: trying to see an outcome that serves him. It's never just for fun, or just for the excitement. In that, he's likely far too rigid for Loki. It's good that he caught on already that he should keep some of that from Loki.
As they near the subsidiary in question—or the warehouse, as that's likely where the weapons are held in a secure area—he pauses, looking up toward Loki.]
Will your infiltration plan have a place here? Or will we be able to walk in through the front door? [A pause.] Not that I'd advise that at this time. We would be asking to be shot.
no subject
[ though he doesn't sound like he's taking it as an insult, but rather a sort of whimsy counter that has Loki's curling up at the edges in amusement. ]
Even with the masks we're going to want to keep being seen to a minimum. Those that do see us? Well, I'll count on you for that one. [ there's a little gesture of a gloved hand, and then it turns into him sweeping right. ] Around the backside of the building there are large humidity vents. They serve as a failsafe for the explosives. Where they would be armed in any normal situation, they're left vulnerable. Too small to man with hopes they'll be overlooked.
The hands may be more plentiful within the walls, but they'll also be less experienced. The more efficient security officers have been stationed elsewhere in Pulsar's encompassing time-space empire. The alarms were all dependent on technology, so they'll be ... offline, so to speak. We won't have to concern ourselves with back-up.
[ he moves swiftly, and for someone who's used to wearing clothes that announce his presence, surprisingly without sound. ]
You'll have your pick, of course. These aren't normal weapons, but that also means we'll have to take care in scrubbing, but that can come after. First things first, after all.
no subject
Then we go to the heat vents. However, that won't server as an exit. They'll be too full up. [His involvement in this task involves his power. It's the very same one he learned about early on, and attached himself to Loki out of curiosity. As much as he resents Loki for claiming his power—which peeves Akechi more than he'd ever like to admit, and he's admitting it to himself a fair amount—he still likes the man. His god. His perspectives.]
If we're careful, I can conceal my ability until our exit. It would be good to have a surprise up our sleeves, and going in should be easier than coming out, given our goal.
[Scrubbing the weapons will be a problem without resources.
Akechi sounds at ease with the rest of it, and his soft footfalls show that he's prepared for the more dangerous aspect of it all: their escape.
But first: time to go in.]
One more thing, I'd rather killing anyone at this time. That'll create a trail for us even more than the weapons themselves. They may try to conceal the aftermath of what we've done if we don't kill anyone along the way. [There's nothing in what Akechi says that hints at him being uneasy with killing.
No, he only dislikes the potential mess from it.]
no subject
No, we'll have to find another way, but if we cause enough confusion, the surprise won't lie in the entrance, but the exit.
[ Loki heads in without any qualms, as if this is like second nature to him. it is, in some sense, Odin's psychic barriers were much worse than any technologically-savvy mortal civilization could cook up. ]
We'll keep the injuries and death to null or nill—I'm not overly fond of either.
[ when necessary, yes, but he's also not that kind of person anymore.
the vents aren't difficult to get into, a little movement and they come right off the large gap (that's even somewhat tall enough for Loki not to have to lean that much). ]
no subject
Otherwise, he would have been more unsettled by what happened here. He can see someone sowing chaos. It's all too clear to him.]
Ideally, we may be able to lure people somewhere with my ability. Tailoring our strategy to that would work. [He follows Loki into the vents, shuffling behind him until they reach the gap. He pauses, listening.]
Infiltration is better when we can conceal ourselves, but we may be missing opportunities for distractions.
no subject
but, regardless. ]
Let's keep our options open. Heists like this always require some level of improvisation.
[ which means it's a good idea. he tugs at the corner of his glove and flexes his fingers, making sure its tight. ]
Eye on the prize!
[ when the coast is clear Loki slips, ducking low through the vents and toward the point where some of the more frantic voices get louder. ]
no subject
And he isn't now.
Plus, Akechi just likes to talk.]
I do wonder what's got them all up in arms. Perhaps we aren't the first to arrive. What do you think?
no subject
there's a pause over one of the vents to watch a few guards chatter urgently with one another before taking off down the fork in the hallway. Loki takes the opposite direction. ]
Possible. I'd be rather disappointed if we don't get first pick. Let's hope for a failure on their part.
[ there's a wistfulness to his voice that makes it sound like it almost might not be entirely sincere. ]
Though whenever those who are used to routine are left to their own devices they get ... anxious.
[ there's a devious twist to that word. ]
no subject
[It's that same desire that they managed to utilize and strike a chord with when they were developing Shido's campaign. Above all else, Akechi's own belligerence toward society drove him. People wanting the same no matter what—it drove and compelled him forward. And thinking they did was why Shido could win, even as he literally offered more of the same.]
Let's use that to our advantage and hope it's not in the very same room where we're headed.
GETAWAY
no subject
the car isn't registered to any of them and even if it was, everything's down. he stole it from a nice neighborhood, he's sure whoever owns it has enough cash to pay off a lawyer if their involvement ever gets questioned.
and jason has a nice tune playing through his implant, windows rolled down, the back of the seat angled enough to be comfortable, and foot pressed to the pedal, just in case. sitting around in a goddamn car isn't any less boring than sitting in the apartment is, there's clearly no huge difference. )
no subject
it's easy to see when the place goes on full-alarm. there's a lot of commotion, despite the lack of security that the EMP has fostered. Akechi and Loki are good enough that it's not long from when the chaos starts that they're out of the facility and heading toward the vehicle. there's a nondescript canvas back that's tossed over his shoulder.
the car is entered quickly, and without any fumble. the bag gets tossed on the floor in front of him. ]
Christmas certainly isn't my holiday, but I've no better metaphor.
[ there's a wistful sound to his voice. ]
no subject
All of these words come after Akechi slides in behind Loki, mask still on. He catches a glimpse of Jason in the rearview mirror, silently judging the choice of sunglasses. If he's hoping they double as stopping surveillance ... well. It's a good thing there isn't any real surveillance right now. He won't pick at that for now.]
As it is, we have about two more minutes before things inside calm down, so I suggest you get us moving.
no subject
Don't need you to tell me how to play getaway driver. ( but he doesn't sound annoyed, despite the words. more--bemused. another alley, until they're back onto a nearly abandoned roadway, not quite heading towards the facility they were at but not quite heading in the opposite direction of it, either. because there's nothing more suspicious than speeding their way away, is there. )
What'd you get?
no subject
[ Loki admits with an easy sigh. the bag slumps at his feet, and he leans back against the seat now that the adrenaline begins to slowly fade.
he seems to trust Jason enough to look entirely tense. ]
Though there is the little issue of scrubbing them clean, I'm certain they'll come looking for their missing toys.
[ then a pause, and a little wave of his hand toward the back. ]
Oh, yes—Jay, this is Akechi. The two of us are linked. [ as if Jason couldn't tell from the annoying banter. ] He's rather good at this, to boot.
no subject
(Definitely not jealous.)]
Please don't take my words of caution as an order or a demand. I've been able to test my power ... liberally since I got it, and it seems that there's a limit on it. [None of this is necessary, but the words come just the same. Akechi is used to trying to appeal to someone.
He relaxes, drawing his seat belt across his body.]
Loki, of course, has a better idea of what we've taken. I'm still acclimating. [Hence: an explanation not about the weapons.]
SORRY i lost this
jason slows down to an even pace on the road, turns up the hovercar's ac after another moment and slouches down further into the seat. eyes flick up to watch akechi in the rearview mirror, but it's only long enough to get a good look at him. late teens, skinnyish, a little bit of a suck up--good enough for him. )
We can stop at the warehouse before heading back in, check for any bugs. ( nobody wants bugs in the apartment. ) But they might have bigger shit to worry about than a few toys soon.
its ok apparently so did i
I'm counting on that. [ there's a little seriousness in his voice. ] We won't be forgotten, but we'll be lower priority, so to speak. I doubt that they'll let this sign of weakness off entirely, even to save face.
But there are other aspects of these weapons that I'm curious about. This isn't the first batch I've gotten my hands on.
[ or Jason will remember the little stunt with the UNA. ]
no subject
Remind me, did that other batch run the risk of tracking?
