[ which is funny
because it's a dream.
she's already changed the past -- if only -- so clearly they don't have to conform to the strictures of reality. they could steal a boat, they could steal a car, they could blow up the bomb and the island and themselves. ]
We don't have to follow this horrid dream.
[ it's almost a realization. ]

[ goddamn dreams. at least he wasn't in stronghold this time. ]
What, are you just going to murder everyone because you can? Get some fucking stress relief out of this?

[ her dying, specifically, but logic dictates the same thing would happen in this dream. blow up the island, blow up the dream, wake up. they shouldn't even feel anything. except gaby isn't exactly suicidal, even in a dream, nor is she particularly murderous so it sounds more like she is convincing herself. ]
Unless you can think of some other way to wake us up.

[ he motions at the group of people that have converged on them. the two that he's punched, her father, and anyone else. ]
Anything specific that maybe this fucking dream's waiting for to happen? I don't know how to get out of something but mine seemed to end when the Envoys found us.
[ and someone had shot her, sure. ]

[ victoria murdering her father wakes gaby up. despite knowing it already happened, that isn't something gaby actually wants to keep reliving. she would prefer to wake up literally any other way.
the irony of waking up from his dream in a very similar manner is not lost on her. ]
no subject
[ wouldn't change what happened in reality but it would stop her from reliving it. ]
I don't mind.
no subject
but asking kovacs to kill someone for her, or accepting his offer, feels too far. she did not ask to dream about an ethical and existential crisis. ]
No, thank you. It'll be over soon.
[ a matter of minutes, really. that decided, gaby heads down the path after her father, toward the dungeons where the bomb is held. ]
no subject
[ it's just a fucking dream. maybe they could walk away, go somewhere else, let it play out. ]
You don't need to punish yourself.
no subject
he's not wrong, she is punishing herself. called out. ]
It wouldn't bother you?
[ she gestures idly at victoria but she can't seem to verbalize "killing her" even if that is obviously what she means. ]
no subject
[ far from it.
he shrugs. ]
It wouldn't bother me. You want me to do it, I'll do it.
no subject
[ literally has already seen him kill people. and she assumes, that his father was the first person he killed based on everything she has learned about him so far. that doesn't mean she wants to be the reason he kills someone else. in a dream. when she is already dead in reality.
puffing out a sigh, gaby nods. ]
Yes, then.
no subject
Just tell me when there's going to be an opening. I'd do it in front of everyone but that just seems uncouth.
[ yes, he knows that word. he shoots her a look and winks. ]
no subject
Yes, we wouldn't want that.
[ she starts moving again, aiming to head halfway down the corridor and pause, waiting for victoria in the dim light. ]
no subject
No, we wouldn't want that at all.
